You help your mom on a daily basis. Rainy days are harder as you’re unable to go for walks or sit outside, and she likes those breaks. When the weather is keeping you inside, try these shows that both of you will be able to relate to.
Gilmore Girls
Lorelei (Lauren Graham) had Rory (Alexis Bledel) at 16, to the dismay of her wealthy parents, and left for a small town in Connecticut where she works as a room cleaner. Now 32, she and her daughter are close and she’s worked her way up to management. The show covers their close relationship and the trials that all mothers and daughters go through.
The Golden Girls
This hit comedy starring Betty White (Rose), Bea Arthur (Dorothy), and Rue McClanahan (Blanche) featured three friends sharing a home in Miami, along with Dorothy’s mother Sophia (Estelle Getty), who Dorothy helps care for. It was lighthearted and covered many issues women could relate to, such as parenthood, getting older, and relationships.
Once you’ve finished all of the seasons of The Golden Girls, look for The Golden Palace. It’s a lesser-known sequel with Rose, Blanche, and Sophia running a Miami hotel together with the help of Chuy (Cheech Marin) and Roland (Don Cheadle). It continued covering topics like relationships, as well as the pros and cons of running a business.
Hot In Cleveland
Betty White had another big hit with this show where she rented out rooms in her large Cleveland home. As Elka, White opens her home to three L.A. women, after they realize the same must-look-young standards they’re exposed to in California don’t seem to be as prevalent in Ohio.
The show also stars Valerie Bertinelli (Melanie), Jane Leeves (Joy), and Wendie Malick (Victoria). The women deal with many issues including chronic health issues, adoption, parenting, and relationships.
This Is Us
In this extremely popular show, Milo Ventimiglia (Jack) and Mandy Moore (Rebecca) meet and fall madly in love. They have triplets, only one dies after birth, but an orphaned infant comes into the hospital at the right time, and they adopt him to complete their family.
The show goes back and forth in time going over parenthood, the joys and sorrows, and the eventual battle against Alzheimer’s that Rebecca faces. Most family caregivers of a parent with dementia will find a lot to relate to in this show.
